Avatar Orchestra Metaverse on Odyssey

We are very happy to announce that the Avatar Orchestra Metaverse will be performing a concert of original compositions this Saturday March 26 at 12:30 PM SLT on Odyssey. Titled "This One's For You", this is a concert for Second Life audiences only - something a little different than AOM's renowned hybrid-reality events.

SaveMe puts the Fun in Fundraising

This month the illustrious SaveMe Oh presented her new piece - Screen Saver Art - a reprise of her Rezday performance - as Odyssey's first fundraiser. SaveMe performed for hours, an endurance piece, and audiences were generous, contributing thousands of Lindens towards Odyssey's maintenance. Many thanks to our audiences, patrons and especially to SaveMe Oh for her kind generosity!

New Odyssey

In February of 2011 ownership of the Odyssey Contemporary Art and Performance Simulator was passed from its longtime sponsor - Dynamis Media Group - to the hands of fifteen Odyssey members. Odyssey now runs thanks to the commitment and support of the following people/avatars/groups: Alan Sondheim/Alan Dojoji, Neutral Ground/Soil Digital Media Suite, Pauline Oliveros/Deep Listening Institute/Avatar Orchestra Metaverse, Man Michinage/Patrick Lichty, Norman Lowry/North Zipper, Rose Borchovski, Jo Ellesmere, Evolutie Szuyuan, Pixel Reanimator/Andrew Stringer, Garrett Lynch, Nora Furlough, M4SK22 Melody, Oberon Omnura, Fau Ferdinand/Yael Gilks, Liz Solo/Black Bag Media Collective. All of these entities are making it possible for Odyssey to continue forward.

In this spirit of change the familiar Odyssey logo is being rejuvenated by Fau Ferdinand. Fau has added color, depth and dimension in the re-design. (original design by Sugar Seville).

The Gate in Brussels

The Gate, by Yannick Antoine and Yves Bernard, creates a junction point between real and virtual spaces - a window between worlds. The most recent installation of the Gate involved interaction between artists and spectators on Odyssey and students in Brussels. This event - February 2 - 4, 2011 - was part of the the Corps/Machine seminar organized by École de Recherche Graphique.

Opening of The Gate in Shanghai

The Gate - a junction point between worlds created by Yannick Antoine and Yves Bernard - was part of the 8th Shanghai Biennale. The Gate was open on Odyssey and at the Shanghai Art Museum from October 21, 2010 until January 23rd 2011. For the Opening event many artists performed in Second Life.

Second Front presented a new Untitled piece.
Pyewacket Kazyanenko performed new choreography with her robot dancers.
Mother and child spectating.

Cleaning the Sky

Odyssey is about to undergo some big changes as we transition from corporately sponsored sim to a member owned sim. Dynamis - who have sponsored Odyssey since 2005 - will be handing the island over to its members this month. It is an exciting time and in preparation for the coming changes Fau and I went exploring the sky to assess the space and clean it of stray objects.

There were some lost prims and a few old sets that needed to be returned but it was quite a surprise to find that several new residences had sprung up, overnight, high in the sky.
People had moved right in.
The inhabitants of the new community were very nice when the janitors arrived.
It was a bit of a shame as clearly the new squatters had been having a very good time in their little village of love shacks.
In no time the sky was clean again. The squatters have moved on.
